Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) 1986
About the Committee:
The purpose of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union: 1986 is to enter into the USSR’s central committee lead by Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet Union’s new president. With an array of problems threatening to collapse the USSR, it is the committee’s goal to ensure the prosperity and ensured dominance in the world of the USSR.
Topic 1: East Germany and the Peaceful Resolution
Gorbachev’s glasnost and perestroika reforms brought forth a huge burst of nationalism in many nations that were part of the Warsaw Pact, including the German Democratic Republic. The increased freedom of speech provided by Gorbachev led to protests that culminated in the Peaceful Revolution that threatened USSR’s dominance of East Germany.
Topic 2: Gorbachev's Perestroika
The 1980’s USSR was wrought with several problems. As Gorbachev assumed command, he instituted the policy perestroika in order to reconstruct and reform the political and economic systems to ensure the continued control by the Communist Party. Perestroika focused more on the economic aspect and deals with how the Communist Party would go about reviving the faltering agricultural and industrial sectors.
Topic 3: The First Molotov
After the public population of the USSR in countries such as Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania learned about the clauses in the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact that stated the Baltic States would be split up without any inner say after WWII, the people grew very discontent. The first protest occurred on the 48th anniversary of this pact that included independence speeches and protests. The USSR must attempt to hush these voices from the other countries around the world in order to present a unified USSR.
